This is one prestigious place. It is set on top of the cliffs of Dover. Unfortunately the parking is not quite all the way up. We first checked out the Admiralty Lookout which was used to identify ships in the straights of Dover during the many invasions. We then took a tour of the Secret Siege Tunnels which were built in the chalk cliffs. The first were built in 1697 and were extensively added to during WW2. There are miles of tunnels housing communications equipment and a hospital. Over 2000 troops were stationed here during the conflicts. After the tour we climbed to the top of the hill to the Castle proper. What an impressive structure this is. Built by Henry II it was home to his family for many years. Next we climbed over 170 steps to the top of Great Tower. What a view! The weather today was picture perfect. Blue skies....just perfect. We could see across the channel to France. Wow!!! We got back to our hotel about 9:00pm. Nothing like driving these narrow roads on the left side after dark............
